Background
Devan was born on the island of Mists to a family working its way up the social ladder. His parents became attached with the help of their family's in an effort to produce offspring, each being the most powerful offspring in their respective trees. The plan worked moderately well for the first 4 children, producing two boys and two girls. However, when the youngest child proved to be little more magical then a stone there was some concern and the breeding was halted.
Devan lived a comfortable childhood, though with his lack of magic he was always something of an outcast. As a result of this isolation, even if it was not intentional, by his family and even more so by his peers he became a bit reclusive and took to reading books whenever he could find them.
Books about magic were always a bit of a bore, as he had no magic and no one who did would care to listen to his knowledge on the matter. Thus his attention drifted from subject to subject as his formal education continued. In his early teen years, he found a kindred soul in an old teacher at his school. The man became something of a mentor to Devan and steered him to a love of all things old. From artifacts to books, from history to songs...Devan quickly became one of the more well read historians in his school and by chance found a subject he could love and do well with.
In his early twenties his mentor passed away in a most drama free way, in his sleep. Leaving the young man at loose ends, having only a casual relationship with his family he decided to make his way to Crossroads and the University there. His study continued for years more within the halls as he continued to pick up every little tidbit of knowledge he could. After accomplishing all he could in the confines of formal education, he was sent over to assist the slightly odd curator of the Museum of History.
His twenties passed in this role, working long and hard in the Museum and assisting the Curator in running the institution. Recently the Curator has passed away, leaving Devan in nominal charge of the Museum. His goals are to bring the dusty halls back into use and provide a place where knowledge about the past and the artifacts contained within can be observed by the most people possible.
Another goal of his is to put the chronicles in order. To create a fully indexed history of Crossroads and the people who pass over its streets.
